Pismo / Oceano Dunes info
April 16, 17, 18, (the weekend after Easter) we'll be gathering @ Oceano Dunes (Pismo Beach).
pismofiredrums.tribe.net
I recently flew up and scouted the area from the air, and it's a really great place for us to have the gathering.
I've also heard positive things from several other people who have been there for other gatherings.
I spoke at length with the rangers about the regulations there and fires and fire spinning are allowed.
There are restrooms at several locations along the beach and even a couple of places back in the "dunes"
Access is easy and at low tide ( I'll post the tide times later) you can , and I have personally done this myself , drive any normal car on the beach as long as you stay off the dry sand.
We have the obvious choice to camp on the beach or we can trek a bit back into the dunes. It would be kool to make our camp further back in the dunes and be a bit more private, but you'll need 4 wheel drive in the soft sand.
There is a guy that takes people on tours of the dunes that we could throw a few $$ to and he'll get us wherever we want to camp. (anybody 4wd equipped?)
Also there is an outfit that has 18ft fully equipped camping trailers that sleep 6 people.
They are $95 per nite and if you don't have towing capabilities, they'll drop it off and pick it up where ever you want on the beach for $50.
They have a furnished kitchen, shower, toilet, heater, and awning.
Can't imagine doing this and certainly not suggesting it, but, there are also some reasonable motels very near by if you're really not into camping. (definitely not a suggestion, just covering as many options as possible)
You can obviously set up camp wherever you like, but it works really well to set up in a big circle. Parking the vehicles on the outside provides a wind break with the center area for an open fire pit and spinning and drumming.
It's is a $10 per vehicle (not per person) charge to camp in the dunes. There's no other charge than that, but there is a big fine if you don't have an over nite pass.
I know many of you have already joined firedrums which was originally created to be the Pismo gathering info site.
But that site quickly evolved into a more general events and happenings site and is serving that purpose well.
So now we've started this site specifically for the Pismo gathering.
I know there are many more people interested in this gathering so PLEASE let everyone you can know about this tribe and take a minute to join.
And if you have any info, suggestions or ideas, please post them to this site.
