    <summary type="html">I was fire breathing in 94 on the playa with everclear and lithium chloride. Made the alchohol a little salty but noticed no problems. The med dose is around 200? mil a day, and you dissolve about 20-50 mil in a gallon of fuel. I think you will have other problems, before you injest enough lithium to give you a problem.</summary>

    <summary type="html">Calcium Chloride is sold as a moisture removeing agent for closets and the like. It is hydoscopic ,so should be kept in a sealed (non metalic) container.  Not terribly toxic as I recall.</summary>

    <summary type="html">Strontium is used in highway flares. You should be able to get it from any Chemical supply house. Get the Technical grade it's way cheaper. Copper chloride is really good, make a small  (marble sized) mesh bag out of brass screen and put the chloride in it, wire it to your torch so it is in the flame. as the whole thing heats up the flame should change color. Should last for a bit.</summary>

I guess it's just important to keep in mind that to make colored flames it must be dissolved in a polar liquid.  So the obvious choice is denatured alcohol and even ethanol would serve as the fuel fraction for the solution.  lamp oil/kerosene...white gas...etc are non-polar and don't like to play alot.&#xD;

    <summary type="html">I really dislike the idea of spinning with methonol.  One of the effects of methonol is to cause the optic nerve to swell causing temporary to permanent blindness depending on the amount of exposure.&#xD;
&#xD;
One route that methonol can get in you is though the eyes... and fire spinning usually results in droplets of fuel being sprayed all over the place...</summary>

    <summary type="html">Too much ingested methanol can damage the optic nerve, causing blindness.  The cure? Ethanol. In earlier times methanol ingestion was cured by having the patient take shots of vodka, as it neutralizes the methanol. &#xD;

    <summary type="html">Apart from the possible toxicities of the colorant chemicals, don't forget that methanol itself is poisonous (as somebody noted above).  Denatured alcohol is mostly ethanol with about 15% methanol added in, so you don't want to be ingesting that stuff, either!</summary>

    <summary type="html">Strontium Chloride is a skin and respiratory irritant, can be very harmful if swallowed&#xD;

Boric acid = similar as Strontium Cl = don't use it.&#xD;
&#xD;
Lithium chloride can be a severe skin irritant and can mess with your CNS.&#xD;
&#xD;
Copper chloride can also irritate your respiratory system and cause skin burns. Not recommended.&#xD;
&#xD;
While the LD50's of these chemicals classify most of them as "mildly toxic" and probably won't systemically affect you if ingested or absorbed through INTACT skin IN SMALL AMOUNTS, putting chemicals in your mouth or on your skin is not wise, and heated/flaming chemicals often have different properties than room temp ones.</summary>

    <summary type="html">denatured alcohol is a hardware item. I've always found it with woodworking, finishes, stains, dyes etc.  one use is to clean/prep surfaces for finnish, another is to mix with powdered dyes as a vehicle for spraying - it's evaporates leaving the dye in the wood.</summary>

    <summary type="html">Another suggestion is to go with the denatured alcohol instead of Methanol as one drop of methanol in the eye can cause permanant damage and maybe even complete blindness.  I use it often to make biodiesel but only with safety goggles.  How many of you wear those while spinning fire? hehe that might look cool.&#xD;

    <summary type="html">Ofcourse, when boric acid burns it realeases a compund that can cause damage to your nervous system and pulmonary cavity.  Chemical reactions have many variables when you add heat or other agents that cause changes on the molecular level.  Your recipie is very toxic, please don't breathe the fumes!</summary>

    <summary type="html">Boric acid, which gives a green/blue flame. This is sold in pharmacies in powdered form as it has antiseptic properties.&#xD;
&#xD;
Lithium chloride, which gives a nice red flame. Tricky to get as it's an anti-depressant.&#xD;
&#xD;
Copper chloride, which gives a good green/blue flame.&#xD;
&#xD;
Indium, expensive and hard to find, gives a deep violet.&#xD;
&#xD;
Other which are theoretically possible, but might not give such good results are: &#xD;
Strontium compounds - red.&#xD;
&#xD;
Calcium compounds - orangy-red.&#xD;
&#xD;
Barium compounds - green.&#xD;
&#xD;
Potassium chloride - a purple flame.&#xD;
&#xD;
&#xD;
White gas (liquid gas e.g. Colemans camping fluid) - a white flame.&#xD;
&#xD;
Dry gas (as above) - a blue flame.</summary>

    <summary type="html">to make green fuel you'll need &#xD;
- a gallon of denatured alcohol or methonol alcohol&#xD;
- one of those small containers of epsom salts &#xD;
- and a package (bout the size of a perscription bottle) of boric acid from the drug store. &#xD;
- one gallon paint can designated for green fuel (I painted mine green) with ingredients listed on the can, and appropriate warnings  &#xD;
&#xD;
this is very scientific, so pay very close attention to the directions&#xD;
&#xD;
pour alcohol into pain can&#xD;
pour a couple of cups of epsom salts into can&#xD;
pour entire container of boric acid into can&#xD;
slush around &#xD;
cap can securely&#xD;
let mixture sit for at least 24 hours, the longer the mixture sits the more saturated the color will be.  &#xD;
&#xD;
Boric acid is used as an eye wash (as well as ant poison)&#xD;
&#xD;
Epsom salts are used for soaking in the tub&#xD;
&#xD;
The denatured alcohol is the icky ingredient&#xD;
&#xD;
you'll not want to use this mixture for fire eating or transfers&#xD;
&#xD;
wash your hands and other points of contacts with soap after contact</summary>
